Parkinson’s café welcomes charity riders

A Lincoln charity welcomed riders who had cycled 56 miles to be at its April meeting.

The Bailgate Parkinson’s Drop in Café was back in action supporting sufferers and their carers after a break due to the cobble street works in the area.

Parkinson’s sufferer Dirk Terjung and his fellow cyclists had ridden from Brookenby in the Lincolnshire Wolds to enjoy cake and a cuppa at Bailgate Methodist Church before making the return journey – a round trip of 56 miles

Dirk uses a power assisted trike and has raised almost £3,000 for Parkinson’s UK research through a just giving page and cash for the charity ride, which has been organsed by the group’s Martin Dickie.

Dirk said: “A special thank you to everyone at the Parkinson’s Drop in Café in the Bailgate for such a warm welcome when we arrived. It meant a lot to be greeted by people who understand the day-to-day reality of Parkinson’s.

“To every donor—whether you gave online or in cash—please accept my sincere thanks. Reaching nearly £3,000 is a dream result. More importantly, it is practical support that will help Parkinson’s UK continue its work for people living with Parkinson’s and those who care for them.”

The café meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12noon.
