MP joins pupils for brekkie

Lincoln MP joined pupils at St Hugh’s Catholic School for their Breakfast Club on Friday to mark National School Meals Week.

Breakfast Clubs support around 180,000 pupils in 750 schools in the first phase of the national scheme with 80,000 youngsters being from deprived areas and offer 30-minute sessions before school.

Youngsters receive free, healthy breakfasts, which research shows helps increase concentration so they better progress in reading, writing and mathematics. The sessions also help with childcare at the start of the school day freeing up 95 hours a year for working parents and saving them £450.

Schools taking part in the scheme receive 75 per cent of the costs from governments and fund the other 25 per cent so there is no cost to pupils’ families/carers.
