L-CAT volunteers in action during Storm Dave

Volunteer responders from the Lincolnshire Community Assistance Team (L-CAT) were called out at the weekend to help clear dangerous obstructions caused by Storm Dave.

Gusts exceeding 55mph saw fallen trees blocking key routes and posing risks to motorists and local communities.

Working alongside Lincolnshire Police, L-CAT teams were called to 12 separate incidents on Saturday night including a large tree completely blocking Canwick Hill in Lincoln.

Additional callouts included a fallen tree on the A631 near Willingham Woods, obstructions on the A46 near Market Rasen, and multiple smaller incidents affecting rural and residential routes across Lincolnshire.

“Storm Dave brought challenging conditions across Lincolnshire, and our volunteers were ready to respond at a moment’s notice. We’re incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our team, who worked late into the night alongside our partners in Lincolnshire Police to keep our communities safe,” said an L-CAT spokesperson.

“These incidents highlight just how vital volunteer responders are during adverse weather events, and we’re grateful to everyone who continues to support our work.”

The spokesperson added more volunteers were needed to join the L-CAT team: “Whether you’re on the frontline assisting at incidents, supporting logistics behind the scenes, or helping with fundraising and administration, there are a variety of roles available.

“Full training is provided by certified professionals, and while experience, driving licences, 4x4 vehicles, or chainsaw qualifications are beneficial, they are not essential as training is provided.

“By joining L-CAT, volunteers have the opportunity to make a real difference in their local community, support emergency services during critical incidents, gain valuable skills, and be part of a respected and supportive team.”
