£4,000 raised for animal care

An animal re-homing charity has received a £4000 boost thanks to Skellingthorpe councillor Chris Goldson.

One of Cllr Goldson’s last duties after his year as Chair of North Kesteven District Council was to hand over a cheque for £4,011 to Hollies Animal Rehoming Trust (HART).

It is a record amount raised by the council chair and the charity was chosen by Cllr Goldson to fit in with his civic theme Animal Allies, as he wanted to underline how communities are strengthened through the care and consideration of animals.

The cash will pay for around six months of kennel fees, said charity fundraising co-ordinator Liza Yeaman: “It makes a massive difference to us and I thank Chris and the team at North Kesteven District Council for their unwavering support over the past year,” she said.

“It will allow us to potentially increase the number of animals we can bring into our care at any one time and takes the pressure off, knowing that we’ve got that bit of money in the bank. It just means the world to us.”

Cllr Goldson said: “Advocating for H.A.R.T has been especially meaningful. This charity’s devotion to the care and dignity of animals is truly inspiring, and I’m grateful to everyone who contributed to our fantastic fundraising amount throughout the year.

“I know that money is needed and that it will be put to a fantastic cause in helping animals which in turn helps owners and communities too.”

Cllr Goldson visited at least one animal-related establishment each month during his civic year meeting alpacas, Falabellas, therapy dogs and horses, owls, vets, and toad rescuers as well as many cats and dogs..

“Those visits took me on a remarkable journey. Each one showed how the bond between people and animals can strengthen wellbeing, foster compassion, and bring communities together. Those visits served as a powerful reminder of the quiet, but extraordinary, work being carried out across our district by committed individuals.”
